Description
Xytex Cryo International is accepting applications for a Certified Medical Technician. Associates degree or above required, ASCP Certified or equivalent. Cyropreservation of human reproductive cells. Complete benefit package available. Hours are Monday –Friday 9am-5pm. 

Major Areas of Responsibility
 
1.   Provides lab information to donor and patient inquiries. Responds to questions and gives accurate technical information and analysis as appropriate. Also addresses non-technical questions, often involving sensitive issues, as in the case of long-term semen storage in anticipation of surgery or chemotherapy, and always strives to provide donors and patients guidance in an empathetic, caring manner.
 

2.   Applies technical skills in processing donor samples and performing semen analysis  within established protocols. Generates reports that are sent to physicians in a timely manner. Provides donor counseling, as appropriate, in relation to sample quality, laboratory results, and the donor candidate’s medical history.     
 
3.   Creates a file for each donor’s laboratory results, ensuring that data is accurate and maintained in a safe, confidential, and easily retrievable manner.
 
4.   Performs phlebotomy on donors and patients. Logs out specimens, sends out, log back in when received.
 
5.   Performs QC daily in lab and reads temperatures and tank levels, record daily freezing levels, receive and log in reagent and supplies; perform monthly QA activities.
 
6.      Reviews laboratory testing information, reviews and records data. Creates temporary working files.
 
7. Protects samples by measuring levels of liquid nitrogen in storage tanks on a daily basis.
 
8.   Files regulatory reports in a timely, complete fashion.

Qualifications
 
Education
 
Associate Degree from an accredited university or college is required. Medical Laboratory Technician certification is also required. Medical Technologist certification is preferred.
 
Experience
 
A minimum of one to two years of laboratory experience is required.
 
Phlebotomy experience is required.
 
Working knowledge of PC-based applications, such as word processing or spreadsheet software, is required.
 
Certification
 
Requires ASCP or other laboratory certification.
 
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
 
Strong interpersonal and communication skills in order to effectively, tactfully, and empathetically respond to donor and patient questions.
 
Ability to exercise good judgment and apply critical thinking skills when problem- solving.
 
High degree of focus and concentration when performing complex laboratory testing.
 
Ability to work under stress and deal effectively with others working under stress.
 
Understands and applies universal precautions when handling specimens.
 
Working Conditions
 
Works in a lab environment with adequate lighting, ventilation and air conditioning.
 
Work requires mental strain of responding to complex issues requiring careful consideration and sound judgment.
